Australian Red Cedar Timber

Rain trees are massive umbrella-shaped trees that grow to 60 m tall with a crown up to 80 m wide. It is particularly valued for its timber, and for shading crops but also supplies medicine for stomach ache, sore throats and skin conditions. Rain tree pods are edible, containing a brownish, sticky, liquorice-like, sweet-flavoured pulp. A lemon-like fruit drink can also be made from the pulp. The popular, heavily striated rain tree timber is straw to smokey coloured and truly stunning. It is commonly found growing in tropical north Queensland, though it is not an Australian native.
