Rain Tree Timber

Rain trees are large umbrella-shaped trees that grow to 60 m tall and are particularly valued for timber and for shading crops. Rain tree pods are edible, containing a brown, sticky, liquorice-like, sweet-flavoured pulp.  A lemon-like fruit drink can also be made from the pulp. The popular, heavily striated rain tree timber is straw to smokey coloured and truly stunning. It is commonly found growing in tropical north Queensland, though it is not an Australian native.
