Burdekin Plum Timber

The Burdekin plum is a native fruit tree with large, red-purple to black fruit which contains a large stone, similar to plums. They may be eaten raw, as jam, or turned into wine, but are often tart. Aboriginal Peoples buried the fruit to ripen and sweeten them. Burdekin plum timber ranges from pale to dark reddish-brown, and is usually streaked with attractive darker coloured bands. The timber has historically been used for musical conductor’s batons and smoking pipes.
