Purple Gidgee Timber

Purple gidgee is a highly prized and rare native Australian timber. It is very hard and dense wood growing in the arid outback of Queensland and Northern Territory. It features sharply demarcated yellow sapwood and a brownish maroon to purple to olive green toned heartwood with a very fine grain. Traditionally purple gidgee timber was used for fence posts and is said to have lasted 100 years in the ground. Today it is highly sought after for woodwork due to its unique deep purple colouring.
